In the year of 1990 the military junta called a general election. The National League of Democracy recieved 59% of the votes, guareenting NLD representation of 80% of the parliament seats. Aung San Suu Kyi, being NLD's candidate had been rejected because the military refused to hand over power. Resulted as a international outcry. She was then placed under a house arrest at her home on University Avenue in Rangoon. Although, during her arrest, she had received several awards. After receiving such awards, she used the money to establish a health and education trust for the Burmese people.

In the year of 1996, there was an attack towards Aung San Suu Kyi - trying to get her killed. There was a motorcade while traveling with the National League for Democracy with the leaders Tin OO and U Kyi Maung was attacked in Rangoon. About 200 men were on about the attack, holding weapons and the car that Aung San Suu Kyi had been in had a smashed window and two backdoors smashed. As Aung San Suu Kyi began her politcal career had been placed under arrest for numerous occasions. During these times, she had been prevented herself away from public meetings and other people. During her house arrest, she occupied her time with reading philosphy, politics, biographies, that her husband had sent her. Everyone has been blocked from seeing or interviewing her during this house arrest.

Aung San Suu Kyi
One who was a strong believer and fighter,
She only made the world brighter,
But that was considered wrong,
Beacuse she was too strong
